Overview

Ensuring 99% uptime in critical gas infrastructure.

A national gas distribution company that operates and maintains a national gas network spanning thousands of kilometres of pipelines. For them, it’s crucial to keep the gas flowing 24/7, because even a minor disruption can have major consequences for homes and businesses alike.

Situation: Reactive maintenance in critical infrastructure

Our client runs critical national gas infrastructure, where downtime isn’t an option. When something breaks, it impacts supply security, costs money, and shakes confidence.

At the same time, our client was growing fast. Over the course of our partnership, it scaled from 29 to more than 100 compressors in operation – a transformation that required an entirely different approach to planning, coordination, and execution across the country. More equipment increased the overall demand for spare parts and service support, making a larger spare parts inventory and more structured spare parts management essential to maintain high availability. At the same time, the organisation needed technical capacity to design, build, install, and service new units at scale.

Before working with Terotech, our client’s maintenance planning only looked three months ahead. In critical operations, that’s not planning. It’s reactive. To keep the system running reliably, the organisation needed to shift from fixing problems to preventing them and build the capability to manage it all.

Terotech was part of that journey – and remains so today. Through a long-term service agreement, we support every facet of their operations, ensuring the organisation, the equipment, and the people are always ready for what’s next.

The Challenge: Zero tolerance for downtime

Our client was dealing with three pressures at once:

  • A growing fleet of compressors that had to run without interruption
  • Maintenance systems that weren’t built to handle that growth
  • The need to build an organisation capable of operating new sites at scale

They needed a professional service partner who could do more than simply perform maintenance – a partner capable of supporting planning, technical decision-making, and the long-term reliability of their compressor fleet.

Without a shift in approach, they faced more breakdowns, more stress on the team, and rising inefficiency. Maintenance needed to move from putting out fires to staying ahead of them.

The Solution: Control, predictability and confidence

When Terotech took over operations and maintenance in 2019, the goal wasn’t just to keep equipment running. It was to build a system that could support growth and deliver consistent uptime.

Here’s what we did:

  • Doubled the planning horizon from three to six months, with around 90% accuracy - based on asset data, operational insight, and hands-on technical knowledge.
  • Followed OEM guidelines to protect warranties and keep assets in good conditions.
  • Implemented additional maintenance measures in response to recurring failures and outbreaks – increasing uptime and reducing corrective costs, all in collaboration with the client.
  • Built a strong relationship with the OEM to maintain warranties and create a foundation for sharing knowledge and driving future improvements.
  • Set up 24/7/365 technical support so the team could respond faster whenever something needed fixing.
  • Optimised spare parts service kits based on asset criticality, cutting dependency on long lead times and reducing the risk of extended downtime risk.

Result: 99% uptime in critical facilities

Since 2019, we have helped our client maintain uninterrupted operations, even while more than tripling the size of its compressor fleet.

In 2025, the collaboration was renewed through an EU tender, now covering service and maintenance of all gas compressors across the Danish distribution network.

What this means in practice:

  • Up to 99% asset availability across rapidly expanding compressor fleet
  • 3x growth in assets supported without compromising operational stability
  • Lower total cost of operation (TCO) through predictive planning and spare part optimisation
  • Improved compliance and working environment across multiple sites
  • Contract renewed through EU tender based on best price-to-quality ratio

The immediate outcome for our client:

  • Fewer unplanned stops
  • Reduced operational stress
  • Predictable operations, even as complexity increased
  • Freedom to focus on delivering gas, not managing maintenance

From reactive maintenance to operational advantage

We don’t just fix what breaks. By tracking and analysing data across our client’s compressor fleet, we’ve helped shift maintenance from reacting to problems to predicting them.

Regular reviews make sure that what we learn on-site gets shared, discussed, and acted on. In one case, we spotted recurring cooling issues across several installations. We dug into the root cause, designed a better solution, and rolled it out across the fleet. The result was more reliable equipment, better working conditions, and lower costs over time.

That’s what happens when maintenance becomes strategic, not just a technical task.

Why Terotech OMS works
  • Single point of contact – less complexity, less coordination, more focus om operations.
  • 24/7 technical support - fast response uptime when uptime can’t wait.
  • Data-driven planning - catches problems before they become breakdowns.
  • OEM-compliant maintenance – protects warranties, and additional maintenance measures based on recurring patterns keep assets performing at their best.
  • Spare part optimisation – service kits tailored to asset criticality reduce lead times and the risk of extended downtime.
  • Lifecycle thinking - supports both day-to-day efficiency and smarter long-term investment decisions.

Performance speaks for itself. In 2025, we won the EU tender based on price, competence, and proven results. Proof that proactive maintenance delivers real business value.

High uptime isn’t something that happens by chance.

It’s the result of planning, preparation, and the right partner.

With Terotech OMS, you gain control over your assets, confidence in your operations, and a maintenance setup that scales with your business, not against it.

Let’s ensure your assets produce tomorrow, today.
