Overview

From installation to operational readiness.

The client is a global OEM of major rotating equipment, providing customised gas compression solutions for energy and industrial applications, where reliability and uptime are critical.

Situation

Our client – an OEM supplier of major rotating equipment – was delivering six electric reciprocating compressor skids to a large Danish energy infrastructure operator. The compressors were part of a turnkey EPCI project spread across multiple sites. Space was limited, timelines were tight, and expectations were high.

The challenge wasn’t just getting the equipment installed. Each site had strict requirements, tricky logistics, and maintenance needs that had to be considered.

The Challenge: Complex installation with no room for error

Unforeseen site conditions made the original installation plan physically impossible to execute. Without quick thinking and adaptation, the project faced delays, increased costs, and a damaged relationship with the end-customer.

What made it difficult:

  • Installing heavy equipment in cramped, restricted spaces
  • Coordinating multiple subcontractors on tight schedules
  • Meeting both regulatory standards and end-customer’s specific requirements
  • Ensuring technicians could safely access the equipment for future maintenance

Any mistake during installation would create problems down the line – affecting maintenance, safety, and uptime. This wasn’t just about getting the compressors in place. It required coordination, experience, and the ability to solve problems under pressure.

Our Approach: Control, coordination, and confidence

We were brought in to manage construction, installation, and commissioning - based on our track record with major rotating equipment projects both onshore and offshore, and our knowledge of Danish regulations and customer standards.

Our approach combined planning, structure, and rapid adaptation.

  • Broke the work into modular packages for efficient coordination
  • Defined clear scopes and optimised workflow to keep safety, quality, and progress on track
  • Reacted immediately when challenges occurred
  • Developed a re-engineered solution
  • Obtained third-party approval
  • Implemented the updated design across all three sites

Beyond the original scope, we also took on responsibility as main contractor for commissioning, ensuring quality, accountability, and a smooth handover to operations.

Solution

Services delivered

  • Installation and mechanical completion
  • Commissioning as main contractor
  • HSEQ management and site supervision
  • Planning and coordination of subcontractors
  • Mechanical handling procedures
  • 2-year service contract

Result

Key outcomes:

  • 6 compressor skids installed and commissioned across three operational sites
  • Project delivered on time, despite changes in scope and plan
  • Zero compromise on safety, quality, or compliance
  • High satisfaction from both client and end-consumer
  • Optimised execution through detailed planning and coordination of multiple trades
  • Assets handed over fully operation-ready, with maintenance, safety, and access conditions aligned for future OMS execution
  • Reduced ramp-up risk by integrating maintenance considerations during installation
Why the project succeeded

The success of this project was built on experience, structure, and collaboration.

  • We acted as a link between our client and their end-consumer, ensuring clear communication and alignment.
  • We applied maintenance expertise in construction and installation, ensuring operational and OMS requirements were met before handover.
  • We coordinated multiple trades and subcontractors through detailed planning and on-site supervision.
  • We adapted quickly when conditions changed, without losing sight of deadlines, safety, or quality.
  • We focused on long-term operability, not just installation

The result is a cost-efficient, compliant, and operationally solid solution delivered under demanding conditions.

Takeaway

Successful OMS starts long before an asset enters operation. By integrating maintenance thinking into installation and commissioning, Terotech helps you reduce risk, improve uptime, and create assets that perform reliably throughout their entire lifecycle.
